i heart NY

went to newyork this weekend to visit my mom. long island is beautiful, but a long commute (or train ride) to get into the city. i love the place, and it isn't even the lights or the overwhelming experience of the skyscrapers and the busyness. its the fact that i can walk the city, or easily navigate via subway. the subtle, sophisticated style, the feel of central park and the park down by the river. whoever decided to reserve all that land for central park had excellent foresight. i think central park is what keeps that city together. with the lack of land in neighborhoods, everone living at each others' elbows, the park is a beautiful well-cared-for place to get away from the city. in the middle of central park, there is only wide streets with grassy borders, the sounds of horsedrawn carriages, dogs, and people playing. the city seems a million miles away. i went kayaking with andrew on the hudson and had a blast. as happens everytime i kayak, a storm came up and we had to come in early, but it was fun nonetheless. we then walked around new york city for the rest of the day with soaked pants. had a great time spending the weekend with andrew.

in other news, true to the phenomenom of nothing ever being straightfoward in my life, i have been fired from my job, and unfired though i can't work in the greenwood store anymore. i now have the possibility of a full time job in greenville with the same company, but would i want to commute that far, or would i move? i don't want to leave grace here without a roommate, and i was actually looking foward to living in carleton with her...
nothing will ever be simple.
