they come out of the blue sky

there are about 50 senior citizens, as evidenced by the grey heads of short hair. about halfway up, there's one ginger of about 40 and to the right, a blond of about 7. standing all the way at the back, about a head taller than anyone else, is a lone twenty-something with long black hair and a red scarf. she is trying to sing along with 'shine jesus, shine,' but the tempo keeps fluxuating between about .3 and one. theologically, the church is pretty baptist, but there is a woman leading the service, a collection of her sermonettes interspersed with hymns. men and women pass out communion (with glass communion cups!), and the children take up an offering. this college student wonders to herself what will happen to this quaint church with massive coffers in the 30-something foot ceiling in twenty years, when all of these people are dead.
next week, she'll go back to oxford, hoping to take someone with her. after that, the friends will arrive, and there'll be a week and a half of roaming the country (and some others). then school will be over, and (yay) summer.

(p.s. i fixed part of the syntax brandon emailed me about on 'my hands are dirty')
