i guess the winter makes you laugh a little slower

i finally found a flatmate that is not a hermit. emma is a cute little british girl who can imitate a south carolina accent pretty well after listening to me. she lives right across the hall, so we prop our doors open and we can talk to each other. she has a car, too, so trips to town may become easier. i think i'm going to like her.

as usual, i'm beginning to pick slang pretty quickly, and pretty regularly catching myself saying bizarre sounding things such as 4 quid (£4), half-seven (7:30), cheers, and i'm skint (broke). of course, it becomes natural when some of it is necessary. they often don't understand me if i use the american terms, so i'm lapsing into brit slang sometimes just to be able to communicate more easily.

yesterday i saw a sign that said 'beware of dog' and just underneath it was a beautiful fluffy black cat with white socks. that was when i was caught in my first ever traffic jam (on a bus) in the uk. something to do with road construction.

i wish you all could come see me.
